“Slug Flow-Induced Forces in Pipe Fittings (Elbows)”

Internal two-phase flow-induced vibration (FIV) impacts on the integrity and reliability of pipe systems in a wide range of applications, such as oil and gas production, processing, and transportation. Tulsa University Fluid Flow Projects (TUFFP) is currently investigating flow-induced forces in pipe fittings (elbows) due to slug flow employing experimental study and mathematical modeling. The modeling approach is based on the coupling of two independent models: (a) the mechanistic multiphase flow model ‘TUFFP Unified Model,’ and (b) the hydrodynamic force model based on the slug characteristics. The main goal is the prediction and mitigation of such undesirable phenomenon.
